Business succession planning: transferring ownership, not just a job title
Business succession planning decides who takes over ownership, how it is valued and funded, and when. The questions owners avoid, and the documents that make the answer real.
A business proposal template is not a design exercise. Seven sections in the right order do most of the work — and one of them decides whether the rest gets read.
A business proposal template exists to stop you rewriting the same document every time — and, more usefully, to stop you burying the part the client actually reads. Most proposals lose in the first page, where the writer describes their own company and the reader is still looking for evidence that the problem was understood.
The structure below works for a service engagement, a project bid or a partnership pitch. It is deliberately ordered by what the reader wants, not by what is easiest to write.
If it is longer than a page, add a summary at the top: the problem in one sentence, the approach in two, the price, and the timeline. Many decisions are made from that box alone, and the rest of the document exists to be checked afterwards. When the buyer runs a formal process, the same content has to be reshaped to answer a request for proposal on its terms.
Scope and price are read carefully; everything else is skimmed. That is why the exclusions list is worth as much as the inclusions — it is the cheapest way to prevent the conversation where both sides remember the agreement differently. Two lines of "not included: content writing, hosting costs, third-party licences" save a month of goodwill.
Be equally concrete about assumptions. A proposal that depends on the client providing data by a certain date, or on one round of feedback rather than three, should say so where it can be seen — not in a footnote after the signature block.
In Ettex, proposals are one of the document templates in Write, alongside briefs and reports: rich formatting with headings, tables and images, reusable text styles so the document looks the same every time, comments and @mentions for an internal review pass, version history to compare drafts and restore any of them, and export to PDF, DOCX, ODT or Markdown. For a pitch that needs slides rather than pages, Show has pitch-deck templates and exports to PDF or PPTX. When the proposal is agreed, Ettex Sign turns it into a signature request with reminders and an audit trail.
Proposals usually answer a request, and the quality of that request shapes the proposal. A request a quote form that captures scope, timing and constraints up front means the proposal can be specific from the first draft.
As short as the decision allows. Two to five pages covers most service work; anything longer needs a one-page summary at the front.
Yes, with the scope it covers and the payment schedule. A proposal without a number moves the decision to a second conversation you may not get.
A quote is a price for a defined thing. A proposal argues for an approach and then prices it — it is used when the client has a problem rather than a specification.
Usually yes, if it names the parties, the scope, the price and the terms, and both sides sign it. Many small engagements run entirely on a signed proposal.
On the date you put in the next-step section. That is the advantage of naming one: the follow-up is expected rather than pushy.
A good business proposal template does two things: it stops you starting from a blank page, and it stops you starting with yourself. Problem first, price plainly, one clear next step.

AGM meeting minutes evidence that the annual general meeting was properly held and what it resolved. What has to appear, what should be left out, and how long to keep them.
A post implementation review asks whether a project delivered the benefits it promised, how good the estimates were, and what to change next time. What to cover, when to run it, and why most are useless.
