Ettex Mail is a client, not a new mailbox: it connects to email you already have. You can attach a Gmail or Google Workspace account in one click, or any mailbox that speaks IMAP and SMTP — your own domain, your company server, a provider you have used for years.

Connect a Google account

  1. Open Mail. If no mailbox is attached yet, the “Connect your mail” screen appears.
  2. Choose “Connect Google”.
  3. Sign in and approve access in Google’s own consent screen. Ettex never sees your Google password.
  4. Your inbox loads and you can read and send mail without leaving Ettex.

Connect your own mailbox over IMAP

For any other provider, use the IMAP option. You will need the details your provider publishes in their setup instructions.

  1. On the “Connect your mail” screen choose “Your own mailbox”.
  2. Enter the email address of the mailbox.
  3. Enter the IMAP server — typically something like imap.yourprovider.com — and the port. Ettex prefills 993, the standard port for IMAP over TLS.
  4. Enter the mailbox password, then press Connect.

If your provider requires an app-specific password or two-factor authentication, generate that password in their control panel and use it here instead of your normal one.

If the connection fails

  • Ettex reports “Could not connect — check the address and password”. That message covers all three common causes: a typo in the address, a wrong password, or a server name that does not match.
  • Check the IMAP host and port against your provider’s documentation — some providers use a different port or require the hostname of your own domain.
  • If your account has two-factor authentication enabled, a normal password will be rejected; use an app password.

Try it before connecting anything

If you just want to see how Mail works, choose “Explore demo inbox” on the same screen. It opens Mail with sample messages, no account and no credentials involved. You can also press Later and attach a mailbox another day — the rest of Ettex works regardless.

What you get once a mailbox is attached

  • Conversations — messages with the same subject are grouped into one thread instead of scattered rows.
  • Categories — incoming mail is sorted into tabs, and you can move a message to a different category yourself; your choice wins over the automatic one.
  • Scheduled sending — pick a time and the message leaves later; scheduled mail moves to Sent on its own once the time arrives, even if you opened the app in between.
  • Attachments land in Storage, so a file someone sent you is available to the rest of Ettex without downloading it twice.

Several mailboxes

Each Ettex account holds one attached mailbox at a time. If you juggle a personal and a work address, sign in with the account that matches — data is stored per user, so the two never mix on the same machine.

Disconnecting

To detach a mailbox, use Sign out in the avatar menu of the header. That clears the stored account and reloads the app cleanly, so nothing keeps syncing in the background under the previous identity.
