You do not have to remember to save a version — Ettex takes a snapshot of the document on its own while you type, and keeps the last 30. If an edit went wrong, you can look through those snapshots and put an earlier one back.

How snapshots are taken

  • A snapshot is written as you edit, at most once every 15 seconds.
  • Identical content is skipped — a snapshot only appears when something actually changed.
  • The 30 most recent snapshots are kept; older ones drop off the end of the list.
  • Spreadsheets and presentations are covered too: a sheet version is measured in filled cells, a deck version in slides.

Roll back from the editor sidebar

The fastest route is the right-hand sidebar, without leaving the document.

  1. Open the document and switch the right sidebar to the Versions tab (the clock icon).
  2. Look through Saved versions — each row shows the version number, the time it was taken and its size. The newest one is marked Current.
  3. Press Restore next to the version you want. Ettex reloads the document with that content.

Restoring does not delete anything. The newer snapshots stay in the list, so you can roll forward again if you restored the wrong one.

Compare versions side by side

When you are not sure which snapshot is the right one, open the full history — it previews each version before you commit to it.

  1. In the editor, open the document menu (the ⋯ button) and choose Version history. The document opens in the history view.
  2. Pick a version in the left-hand list. The preview on the right shows exactly how the document looked at that moment.
  3. Press Restore in the header to put the selected version back, or To document to leave everything as it is.

The history view lives at a URL of its own, so you can bookmark it or reopen it with the browser's back button.

If the list is empty

A document that was just created has nothing to restore — you will see “No saved versions yet — edit the document.” Type something, wait a few seconds, and the first snapshot appears. The same is true for a document you imported and have not touched yet.

Versions, comments and review

Version history answers “what did this look like before?”. If you need to know who suggested a change and why, use comments and review mode instead — they are separate tabs in the same sidebar, and they survive a restore.
